I was reading thermal equilibrium and stumbled into this question:
During a bout with flu, an 80kg man ran a fever of 2.0 c; that is his body temperature was 39 c instead of the normal 37 c.
Assuming that a human body is mostly made up of water, calculate the amount of heat required to raise his temperature by that amount.
Q=mcT
Q=(90)(4200)(2.0)
Q=6.7 x 10^5
How about this?
If a 35kg child has a temperature of 40 c, how much heat is required to raise his temperature from initial 37 c?
Q=mcT
Q=(35)(4200)(40-37)
Q=4.4 x 10^5
does these values mean that the chances of a child getting fever is alot higher than that of an adult? including the fact that children have a weaker immune system, does that mean that a child is even more vulnerable to viruses? o.o someone enlighten me please!
